Moldova will receive a grant of 4.3 million euros to modernize the waste management infrastructure in settlements south of the country. The members of the Parliamentary Commission for Foreign Policy and European Integration approved an advisory opinion on the start of negotiations and approval of the signing of a grant agreement between Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The project “Solid Waste in Moldova” will use the money for implementation.
According to the document, they plan to develop solid waste management infrastructure in the Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia, Vulcanesti, Ceadir-Lunga, and Comrat districts. The project will cost about 17 million euros in total.
The EBRD will allocate the money for several project components. They will invest 2.25 million euros to construct a landfill and sorting and composting stations in Cahul and to build transshipment stations in Cania, Taraclia, and Comrat. They will also earmark 810,000 euros to purchase equipment for waste processing and utilization. Additionally, they will use an equivalent amount to close all the dumps in the project areas.

Earlier, Moldova signed a loan agreement with the EBRD. So, the EBRD will allocate 25 million euros for part of the “Solid Waste in the Republic of Moldova” project. They will implement this project, which also covers the Briceni, Ocnita, Edineti, and Dondusan districts, by 2027.
