During his working visit to the United States from December 2-9, Speaker Igor Grosu met with Moldovans living in Chicago and Raleigh, North Carolina. He praised their ambition, and perseverance and wished them continued success.
In Chicago, home to the largest Moldovan community in North America, Grosu announced the opening of a Consulate General of the Republic of Moldova in the city by mid-2025. “This achievement is a collective effort, driven primarily by the dedication and responsibility of our people here,” Grosu remarked.
He also engaged with members of two polling stations established for this fall’s elections, where nearly 4,000 Moldovans exercised their constitutional right to vote.
Grosu highlighted the success of Moldovans in Chicago, who have built thriving businesses in transportation, logistics, IT, construction, and education. Many have expanded their ventures back to Moldova. “I am inspired by how our people look for ways to contribute—whether through business, supporting local projects, or organizing events that connect communities in the U.S. and Moldova,” Grosu stated.

One example is Diana Tipa, who founded a school two years ago where over 80 children learn Romanian and traditional folk dances. Similarly, Andrei Turea has elevated Moldovan wine internationally, ensuring its presence in over 20 countries and striving to expand its reach further.
In Raleigh, North Carolina, Grosu met with another vibrant Moldovan community. “It’s impressive to see such a dedicated group staying connected to developments in Moldova while promoting our traditions in the United States,” he noted.
The visit also included high-level meetings with U.S. officials, such as senators, congressmen, USAID Administrator Samantha Power, and North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall. Grosu also discussed with experts from the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the International Republican Institute.
This visit underscored the enduring bond between Moldova and its diaspora and the shared commitment to cultural preservation and international collaboration.
