The Baltic States represent for Moldova not only reliable partners but also an example of courage, consistency, and political will in the process of accession to the European Union. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu made these statements during a joint press conference with the President of the Riigikogu of Estonia, Lauri Hussar, the Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia, Daiga Mierina, and the Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania, Juozas Olekas.

Igor Grosu said that the experience of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania shows that deep state transformation is possible when political determination exists and citizens provide support.

“Every time we talk about accession to the European Union, we naturally look to you, because you know what it means to leave a grey area of history, to break dependencies, and to firmly choose freedom,” the parliament speaker stressed.

Grosu acknowledged that Moldova missed the common starting point of European integration more than two decades ago, but he emphasized that the country has assumed responsibility for making up for lost time.

“Today we are no longer talking about if, but about when. And this ‘when’ depends on our work, on internal unity, and on the support of our European friends,” Igor Grosu declared.

In his speech, the speaker reaffirmed that Moldova’s commitment to European integration remains firm and was reconfirmed at the parliamentary elections of September 2025, when citizens clearly supported this strategic direction.

Igor Grosu highlighted the concrete support provided by the Baltic States. Estonia acts as Moldova’s main partner in the digitalization of public services, contributing to the creation of more efficient and transparent institutions. He also welcomed Estonia’s decision to open an embassy in Chisinau, which will become operational in the second half of this year. As a result, all three Baltic States will have diplomatic representation in Moldova.

Latvia contributes to training a new generation of civil servants through programs in European law and economics held at the Riga Graduate School of Law, which staff from the Parliament Secretariat have also attended. Lithuania supports Moldova in the field of renewable energy by implementing projects that install solar panels in hospitals, schools, and kindergartens, helping to strengthen energy independence and reduce costs for public institutions.

In conclusion, the parliament speaker underlined that European integration represents a national project, not only a political or economic one, and he thanked the Baltic States for their constant support.

“Moldovans are Europeans through their history and their everyday actions, and on this path we are accompanied by true friends and partners,” Igor Grosu concluded.

Parliament has opened the 2026 spring parliamentary session. This week, plenary sittings and standing committee meetings are scheduled, and Parliament will host two official visits. The session began with the official visit of the speakers of parliament from the Baltic States.

On February 3, Parliament will hold the inaugural meeting of the spring session with the participation of Lauri Hussar, Daiga Mierina, and Juozas Olekas, who will deliver speeches at the solemn sitting.
