Speaker Igor Grosu rejected statements made by Democracy at Home party leader Vasile Costiuc regarding alleged arms production in the Republic of Moldova, calling the information “lies.”

Speaking during a TV show on TVR Moldova, the official emphasized that before the current government, certain individuals had acted as intermediaries in such transactions.

“Law enforcement bodies eliminated these intermediaries and established direct contracts and direct links with producers, within a legal framework. Obviously, this ruined their business. Some of them also own properties in Crimea, in illegally occupied territories, and feel compelled by Kremlin propaganda to speak out publicly,” Grosu stated.

The Speaker also referred to an initiative to produce civilian armaments in Ungheni, which operates within the law.

“We have a company in Ungheni that obtained a contract. It creates jobs here and will sell products on the local market or export them. These are jobs for our citizens, and everything is done within a legal framework. But this is where lies appear, the favorite tool of the so called sovereigntists,” Igor Grosu said.

Earlier this week, Costiuc claimed that authorities had allegedly allowed the construction of an arms factory in the Republic of Moldova, which, in his view, would turn the country into a “legitimate target of the Russian Federation.”

Following these statements, the Public Services Agency clarified that investors who wish to invest in civilian armaments production must strictly comply with legal procedures. The agency stressed that any claims about the approval of a military arms factory are unfounded and reiterated that current legislation strictly limits private investors access to military arms production in order to protect national security.
