Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu met with US Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power in Washington. Officials Discuss Generous Assistance Provided by USAID in Recent Years to Support Moldova’s Development Agenda.
One of USAID’s new projects is Justice Reform and Anti-Corruption Assistance (JARA), which will support the Moldovan government’s efforts to implement justice system reform and promote anti-corruption commitments.
“I thank you on behalf of the citizens of Moldova for the fact that the United States of America has been with us these years. I do not think there is a locality in Moldova that has not directly or indirectly benefited from projects implemented by USAID with the support of the American people.
Thanks to USAID programs, we managed to overcome the Russian embargo on our wines in 2005, then in 2013. Also, thanks to the support of our American partners, we have faced the most severe energy crisis to date and coped with the refugee crisis. We have important investments in the creative industry, light industry, tourism, and agriculture,” Grosu stressed.
For her part, Samantha Power reaffirmed USAID’s commitment to supporting the Republic of Moldova in European integration by expanding economic opportunities and creating a more sustainable and secure energy and critical infrastructure.
