Grosu: Losing the European path means losing our only viable opportunity for development

Speaker Igor Grosu publicly addressed several statements taken out of context and circulated in the Moldovan press.

“I see various quotes of mine twisted and published out of context, so I want to clarify my position,” Grosu said.

He reaffirmed his consistent message: without pursuing the European path, Moldova risks losing access to European funds, which are vital for local and regional development.

“If we abandon the European path, we lose access to European funds. That means losing our only viable opportunity for development. We lack the resources to independently finance critical projects such as sewage systems, water infrastructure, and roads in villages and cities—projects we have rapidly advanced over the past four years thanks to European assistance.”

Grosu also warned against the risks of an eastward orientation.

“Don’t expect Putin or criminal groups to invest in our villages. The Russians and bandits come to take, not to give—and we have witnessed this for the past 30 years.”

He urged citizens to remain vigilant against manipulation and to rely on secure, verified sources for information.

These clarifications come amid intense public debate about Moldova’s strategic direction, ahead of upcoming presidential elections and the referendum on European integration.
