Ursula von der Leyen announced the “Growth Plan for Moldova” in Chisinau, with the European Union allocating €1.8 billion to strengthen several areas in the country.
The head of the European Commission praised the Chisinau authorities’ efforts to strengthen democracy. The money allocated by the EU will help to expand the economy and build schools, hospitals, roads, and energy interconnection.
“I want to emphasize the importance of bringing our economy and single market closer. You have an ambitious economic plan, and the European Union will support it. We base our support on three pillars: We will invest €1.8 billion in your economy and focus these investments on the economy and public investment. We will renovate schools, build two new hospitals and connections with neighbors, invest in the energy grid, and contribute to broadband internet.
We will contribute to all areas by integrating businesses into the single market. You will have access to single payments. We will provide more opportunities for the small and medium business sector. I believe that Moldova will remain as strong and resilient. The European Union stands by Moldovan society. Dear Maia, for Moldova, we stand by you,” said Ursula von der Leyen.
In her turn, Maia Sandu thanked for her previous and new support to Moldova.

“Thank you for this aid. It is a symbol of confidence in the development potential. It will help us build a strong economy and develop our localities and country. I am sure, together, we will have other achievements moving forward on the path to EU membership. We have a saying man sanctifies the place. The European Union offers us support, but it is our mission, and the generations’ mission – to build the European Union here at home,” said Maia Sandu.
The President also said that the support given by the EU in recent years has shown that solidarity is the basic pillar of the community, pointing out that the people of Moldova want peace and prosperity.
