Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin has offered clarifications regarding the weapons discovered at the Leuseni–Albita border crossing, after being brought into the Republic of Moldova from Ukraine. She stated that the investigation is ongoing and that Moldovan and Romanian authorities are working within a joint investigative team.

According to preliminary findings, the batch of ammunition was smuggled into Moldova in parts—“two components at a time”—through a border crossing point on the Ukrainian side. The minister also stressed that, at this stage, investigators have found no evidence that the weapons originated from strategic military depots.

“The origin of these items from any arms depots or other strategic ammunition storage facilities is not confirmed,” Misail-Nichitin said.

She added that the individuals involved in issuing the documents and organizing the export have been detained and placed under arrest. “All possible scenarios are being examined, including the possibility that this was an attempt to discredit the Republic of Moldova,” she noted.

Regarding the transport company implicated in the case, the minister confirmed that it had crossed the border previously but said there is currently no evidence that it transported weapons in the past: “The transport company carries various types of goods. At this stage, I cannot say that it previously transported armaments.”

The General Prosecutor’s Office issued additional clarifications on November 26. According to prosecutors, the ammunition was smuggled into Moldova with the help of a courier who regularly transported cargo from Ukraine. They emphasized that there is no indication the weapons came from military or strategic depots, including the Cobasna stockpile or depots belonging to the National Army.
