Heating season is extended in Transnistria, but the gas is not three days old. Separatists: Tech issues

Transnistria has extended its heating season until April 13, but the separatist administration has gone without gas since Saturday, April 5. Officials in Tiraspol cite alleged “technical issues” as the cause of the disruption.

Transnistrian leaders expect gas deliveries to resume between April 8 and 9. Once supplies arrive, they plan to restart thermal power plants and restore heating to residents by April 13.

The region buys gas from Hungarian energy giant MET and pays through a Dubai-based company. In February, officials renewed the contract and claimed they would extend it, though they provided no further details.

In January 2025, Gazprom unilaterally halted gas supplies to the breakaway region. As a result, residents endured the peak of winter without heating, electricity outages that lasted up to eight hours daily, and a complete suspension of hot water services.
