Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Igor Grosu met with Turkish MP Kürşad Zorlu, who is responsible for relations with Turkic states, during a brief stopover in Istanbul.

The officials discussed Moldova-Turkey relations and the situation in Gagauzia, including the elections scheduled to take place in the autonomous region in November 2026.

“Just a few weeks after his visit to the Republic of Moldova, we revisited issues of common interest and projects through which we can strengthen Moldova-Turkey relations. We also discussed the situation in Gagauzia, including the upcoming elections in the autonomous region. For us, it is important that Gagauzia develops in peace and stability as an integral part of the Republic of Moldova, while preserving and promoting its identity, language and culture.

The special ties between the Gagauz people and Turkey should serve as a bridge that brings people together and contributes to the development of the autonomy. We will continue this close and open dialogue with our Turkish partners,” Grosu said.

Grosu is scheduled to make working visits to Slovenia and Hungary next week. His agenda includes meetings with senior officials in both countries, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and interparliamentary cooperation, as well as supporting Moldova’s progress toward European integration.
