Speaker of the Parliament Igor Grosu discussed Moldova’s European path and the reforms needed for EU membership with Slovenian officials during his working visit to Slovenia.

Grosu met with Zoran Stevanović, President of the National Assembly of Slovenia. According to Grosu, the discussions focused on Moldova’s progress in the EU accession process.

“This autumn is a very important period for us: we are expected to adopt around 200 pieces of legislation that will bring us even closer to European standards and our goal of becoming a member of the European Union,” Igor Grosu said.

The parliamentary speaker later met with Danijel Krivec, Vice-President of the National Assembly of Slovenia. The two discussed the role of parliaments in the accession process and cooperation between the institutions of the two countries.

Grosu stressed that Slovenia’s experience is important for Moldova. According to him, Slovenia used the EU accession process to reform and modernize its institutions, ultimately becoming a member of the European Union.

Grosu thanked the Slovenian authorities for their support for Moldova’s European integration and said that the backing of a country that has gone through a similar path is particularly important for Chisinau.
