Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has described the Russian Federation as a “real and direct threat” to Moldova’s national security. In an interview with the MOLDPRES State News Agency, Grosu stated that Moldovan authorities are implementing a comprehensive strategy to counter hybrid threats and destabilization attempts.
“For the first time, in the National Security Strategy, the Russian Federation is explicitly mentioned as an external threat, alongside internal corruption,” he noted. Grosu cited Moscow’s tactics, including energy blackmail, trade embargoes, disinformation, and the financing of pro-Russian parties, as part of a broader effort to undermine Moldovan sovereignty.
He also condemned the illegal stationing of Russian troops in Transnistria. He emphasized Moldova’s efforts to strengthen energy independence, diversify exports, and improve institutional resilience with the support of international partners.

Ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, Grosu said the government tightened electoral legislation and would firmly sanction any vote-buying attempts. “We will not allow anyone, any bandit protected by the Russian Federation, to buy the elections,” he declared.
He concluded by reaffirming that Moldova seeks good relations with all countries, including Russia, as long as they respect mutual principles and international law.
