Igor Grosu Urges Moldovan Citizens to Vote in Romania’s Presidential Elections

Romania’s presidential elections represent more than a simple electoral contest—they will determine the country’s future direction and the strength of its voice within the European Union, especially in supporting Moldova. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu conveyed this message today, encouraging Moldovan citizens to participate actively in the upcoming elections.

He emphasized that, from 2 to 4 May, Romanians worldwide are called to the polls to elect their next president.

“We, the people of Moldova, have a significant role in shaping a common European future for citizens on both banks of the Prut. I urge you to go to the polls from 2 to 4 May at one of the 64 polling stations in Moldova. It is essential to have a valid Romanian identity document, such as an electronic or provisional identity card, ID card, or passport,” stated Igor Grosu.

He recalled that in December 2024, nearly 81,000 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship voted in Romania’s presidential elections.

“We witnessed an extraordinary turnout and a record level of participation. Let us unite once again and demonstrate that we are not merely holders of Romanian passports but also responsible citizens committed to Romania’s future. These elections are about choosing Romania’s path and strengthening its voice in the European Union to support Moldova,” Grosu said.

The speaker called on all Moldovan citizens to engage actively and vote in large numbers.

“Dear Bessarabians, let us show the world the strength of Moldova’s citizens. We must not allow foreign, extremist forces—those who do not care about Moldova—to divert Romania from its European path. In these elections, we support Crin Antonescu — the pro-European government’s candidate in Bucharest — and our ally in the European People’s Party, the National Liberal Party. Together, let’s move forward! Forward, Romania!” added Igor Grosu.

Romania will open 64 polling stations across Moldova for the presidential elections. The breakdown is as follows: 18 stations in the North, 38 in the Center—including 20 in Chisinau, and 8 in the South.

Romanian citizens in Moldova can vote on 2, 3, and 4 May, between 07:00 and 21:00.
