In 2024, the number of foreign tourists visiting the Republic of Moldova increased by 55%

The number of foreign citizens who visited Moldova through travel agencies increased by 55.1% in the first half of this year compared to 2023 and amounted to 25.6 thousand people. Such data were presented today by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Most tourists came from Romania (58.3%) and Italy (23.8%).

According to the NBS, most visitors (95.1%) were one-day excursionists who arrived for recreation, recovery and leisure.

The average duration of stay of foreign tourists in the country during the analyzed period increased and amounted to 4 days compared to 3.1 days in January-June 2023.

At the same time, in January-June 2024, the number of tourists and excursionists who traveled abroad through travel agencies increased by 19.6% and amounted to 141 thousand people. The overwhelming majority (99.2%) traveled for the rest purpose, recovery, and leisure. Moldovan citizens preferred to travel to Turkey (43,6%), Egypt (15,1%), Bulgaria (14,5%), and Romania (12,6%). The average duration of stay of Moldovan tourists abroad during the monitored period amounted to 6.5 days.

According to the NBS, in the first half of this year, the number of visitors participating in domestic tourism increased by 11.5%. It amounted to 43.5 thousand people, most of whom are day visitors.
