In four years of war, 143 Ukrainians have been granted Moldovan citizenship. How many applications are being reviewed?

Since February 24, 2022, 143 Ukrainians have obtained Moldovan citizenship. Of these, 23 received citizenship through naturalization, while 120 regained it.

Among the new Moldovan citizens, 3 are minors, according to a response to a request from the editorial team of Realitatea. These minors applied for citizenship after the war began.

Currently, authorities are reviewing 31 applications for citizenship through naturalization and 3 applications for its restoration.

“Additionally, we inform that, according to Article 26, letter b) of Law No. 253/2025, the examination of applications for acquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova through recognition falls under the competence of the Agency of Public Services,” representatives of the presidential administration added.

At the same time, data from the General Inspectorate for Migration show that 3,696 Ukrainian citizens currently hold permanent residence permits in Moldova, while another 2,558 have temporary residence permits.
