Passenger road transport fares in the Republic of Moldova have increased following the recent rise in fuel prices. According to data published by the National Road Transport Agency (ANTA), the new capped tariffs took effect on April 10, 2026.

For inter-district transport, authorities set the maximum fare at 0.97 lei/km for comfort category II and 1.09 lei/km for comfort category I. For intra-district transport, capped tariffs reach 1.11 lei/km for comfort category II and 1.24 lei/km for comfort category I.

The adjustment comes amid a significant increase in diesel prices, which reached an average of 34.15 lei per liter between April 3 and 10, 2026, according to the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE).

Earlier, on March 26, the Government of the Republic of Moldova approved amendments to the methodology for calculating passenger transport fares. Minister of Infrastructure Vladimir Bolea stated that ANTA will set provisional tariffs and adjust them periodically depending on fuel price developments.

The decision follows protests by transport operators, during which dozens of regular routes did not operate. The most affected regions include Soroca and Cahul, where around 90% of routes were suspended, while the central region remained relatively stable, with about 10% of routes affected.

Overall, passenger road transport fares have increased by approximately 16%. The president of the Employers’ Association of Road Transport Operators (APOTA), Oleg Alexa, stated that diesel costs have reached a critical share in operating expenses.
