Ireland will open an embassy in Chisinau this year, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov announced after a meeting with Thomas Byrne from Dublin. She added that authorities are working on agreements regarding the conversion of driving licenses and social security guarantees.
Cristina Gherasimov stated that the Republic of Moldova is learning from Ireland’s experience and thanked authorities in Dublin for supporting Moldova’s European path.
“This visit takes place at an important moment for us, as yesterday the Republic of Moldova opened technical negotiations across all chapter clusters. We reviewed Moldova’s progress in the European Union accession process and discussed priorities for the upcoming period.
Ireland shows how European integration can transform a country through investment, innovation, and opportunities for citizens. We continue to learn from the experience of states that have gone through this process and adopt best practices that have led to economic development and improved living standards,” Gherasimov said.
In turn, Thomas Byrne highlighted the benefits of Moldova’s integration into the European Union. He noted that a hardworking Moldovan community lives in Ireland and is well respected, and pledged support for authorities in Chisinau in the EU accession process.
