Israel to Support Modernization of Moldova’s Agriculture Through Technology Transfer and Expertise

Israel will support the modernization of Moldova’s agricultural sector. On September 3, in Chisinau, Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA), Ina Butucel, and Israeli Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Avi Dichter, signed a declaration of intent.

The agreement provides for the transfer of Israeli technology and expertise, which is renowned worldwide for its innovation. It establishes a framework for joint projects, knowledge exchanges, and the implementation of advanced agricultural practices. Cooperation will focus on efficient water management, adapting to severe climatic conditions, and introducing high-performance technologies to increase productivity and resilience in Moldova’s agriculture.

Deputy Secretary-General Butucel said, “This memorandum provides a crucial framework for developing modern agriculture in Moldova. We have much to learn from our Israeli partners’ knowledge, technologies, and sustainable practices to build an efficient and resilient sector that meets our population’s needs.”

Minister Dichter emphasized the partnership’s practical dimension: “Signing this document marks the first step. We intend to turn this declaration into concrete actions through delegation exchanges and joint projects. Although our countries differ in size and population, we can learn from each other to strengthen an agricultural sector that benefits both nations. We look forward to hosting the Moldovan delegation in Israel to showcase our innovations firsthand.”

The partnership will organize reciprocal visits of experts and farmers, as well as develop training programs. By leveraging Israeli expertise, Moldova aims to address challenges such as climate change and the need for sustainable agriculture, transforming its sector into a more competitive and efficient one internationally.

Export remains a central pillar of the Moldova–Israel collaboration. Ambassador Alexandr Roitman highlighted a declaration of intent signed earlier in 2025 during the Berlin International Green Week, giving Moldova priority in exporting products such as wheat, wine, apples, fresh tomatoes, and dried fruits. The cooperation also grants Moldova access to Israeli know-how and technologies, including intensive agriculture methods, irrigation systems, and modern techniques that enhance productivity and food security amid climate change.

In 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi and his Israeli counterpart agreed to reactivate the Intergovernmental Commission for Commercial-Economic Cooperation to boost reciprocal investments and joint projects in strategic sectors: technology, agriculture, health, and education.
