Italy will open an office of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in the Republic of Moldova, officials announced during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi and the newly accredited Italian Ambassador to Chisinau, Giuseppe Maria Perricone. The new office will launch sustainable cooperation programs designed to boost Moldova’s economic and social development.
During the discussions, Minister Mihai Popșoi emphasized the strength of Moldovan-Italian relations, highlighting their active partnership and ongoing bilateral projects. He also underscored the importance of the two agreements set to enter into force in the fall of 2025 — the Agreement on Social Security and the Agreement on the Mutual Recognition of Driving Licenses.
Popșoi thanked Italy for its assistance in organizing the September 28 parliamentary elections, especially for facilitating voting for Moldovans abroad. Over 81,000 Moldovan citizens residing in Italy cast their ballots at 75 polling stations opened with Italian support.
Ambassador Giuseppe Maria Perricone reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to supporting Moldova’s European integration and ongoing reform efforts.
