Today, Moldovan farmers received a consignment of Japanese agricultural technology under the Modernization of Agriculture Machines and Equipment (MAME) project.

The delivery includes 33 Kubota M6-131 tractors procured through the MAME project. These tractors will be provided to beneficiaries at competitive prices under sale and purchase contracts with installment payment options.

“This new, advanced technology will enable our farmers to modernize, implement efficient soil practices, enhance work productivity, and increase harvest yields,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea.

The MAME project targets small- and medium-sized farms, helping farmers invest in improving agricultural productivity through modern machinery and post-harvest equipment. The Japanese government provided a preferential loan of approximately 19 million dollars through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to fund the project.

Since 1997, JICA has strengthened Japanese assistance to Moldova through various financing programs and official development aid, with MAME being a significant part of this support.

Yoichiro Yamada, Ambassador of Japan to Moldova, expressed respect for Moldovan farmers’ resilience at the event. He highlighted the impact of the Ukraine war and Russia’s aggression, affirming Japan’s continued support for innovative ideas promoting efficient agriculture in Moldova.

Additionally, Moldova and Japan launched the “Farmers’ Supply with Fertilizers” project. This project aims to support small and medium-sized farmers affected by rising input costs (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.) by providing accessible financial solutions for purchasing phytosanitary products and fertilizers. It includes 2,000 tons of NKP fertilizers distribution at a preferential price.

Moldova and Japan have signed over 40 cooperation documents, most focused on providing financial and technical assistance to Moldova. Japan also stands as one of the principal investors in Moldova’s automotive industry.
