The Kremlin is changing its disinformation tactics in the Republic of Moldova, placing increasing emphasis on fear, security and portraying the West in a negative light. The statement was made by Daniel Voda, an associate expert at the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE), in an interview with the IPN news agency, in which he spoke about new anti-EU narratives and ways to counter them.
According to Daniel Voda, the Russian Federation will continue targeting trust between people and different social groups, including by exploiting linguistic and historical issues. In his view, an increasingly prominent element is the cultivation of a sense of insecurity, including through the exploitation of incidents involving drones.
“What Moscow wants to achieve is terror and fear,” the expert said.
Another type of disinformation targets European leaders and institutions, which are portrayed as being detached from citizens’ needs. Daniel Vodă believes that the response to these narratives should be based on dialogue and understanding rather than labeling people who hold different opinions.
“We need to explain, have contacts and build relationships at the level of entrepreneurs and cultural figures,” he said.
In this context, the IPRE expert advocates for cohesion programmes aimed at bringing citizens from different regions of the country closer together, including through cultural and educational exchanges.
