Leaders from France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, and the United Kingdom, as well as the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission, have praised the results of the EU membership referendum held on October 20, 2024, in Moldova. These officials met with President Maia Sandu during the European Political Community summit in Budapest.
Heads of state and government, as well as senior officials from European institutions, reiterated their support for the country. They also congratulated Moldovans for their “commitment to democracy, freedom, and the rule of law, demonstrated through the successful organization of free and fair presidential elections, with a high level of participation.”

The officials condemned the documented attempts to influence election results through manipulation, corruption, and vote-buying schemes and praised the Moldovan authorities for their efforts to prevent Russian destabilization. “We celebrate the success of the Republic of Moldova in resisting efforts of Russian destabilization, and we will continue to support its resilience.”
