Lia Taburcean, A Self-Taught Artist With Big Ambitions: “I’m The Village Diva And I Feel Great That Way”

With boundless energy, singer Lia Taburcean, famous for the hit “La nunta asta,” gave an interview on the videocast “Fii cu Zina Bivol.” She discussed her artistic journey, her childhood marked by adoption, and life in the countryside.

She also explored the challenges she faced in show business and the lessons that have shaped her both personally and professionally.

Adopted at just six months, Lia Taburcean grew up in a large, harmonious family, which she describes with gratitude. She talked about her adoption with maturity:

“My birth mother left me with so much love, and I accepted it; I forgave what happened in the past. It must have been a difficult moment for her [my biological mother].” Although she hasn’t actively sought her biological parents, Lia Taburcean feels an energetic connection to her father: “I feel him very close, I don’t know why. He knows about me; he just hasn’t shown up yet.”

Now the singer finds peace in her native village, where she lives with her parents and her two sons, Razvan and Flaviu.

“I live there, too. I have a little house near the city: I go there, get ready, grab my dresses and microphone—they stay there—and then I head to the countryside,” she said. Lia Taburcean revealed that agriculture comes naturally to her: “I pick up farming easily. I gathered all this knowledge, and I got used to living at this pace.”

Her career hasn’t lacked obstacles, especially at the start, when showbiz envy hit her hard:

“At first, I felt the envy in showbiz very intensely. Critics labeled me as untrained because I lack formal musical studies. It drained all my energy and beauty.” She credited her husband, Dima, and collaborators like Kapushon for essential support: “He is my God, if I can say it like that. He has been my help and will remain so for life.”

Although she didn’t pursue formal musical education, Lia Taburcean learned everything through practice: “By working in the studio, I picked up instruments, learned how to build an instrumental track, how to craft lyrics—absolutely everything.”

She believes deeply in the power of intuition and energy:

“When I go to events, I feel at home, whether the wedding will be a 100% hit or only 50%.” Reflecting on her broader purpose, she said, “Music isn’t enough for me. I have another purpose on this earth. I’m trying to reach it.” Quoting Tatiana Heghea, who called her “our extraordinary village girl,” Lia Taburcean concluded: “I’m the village diva, and I feel great that way.”
