Lithuania will assist Moldova in the process of adopting EU legislation in the field of justice

The Justice Ministries of Moldova and Lithuania signed a new action plan for the justice sector for 2024-2026 in Vilnius. A press release from the Moldovan Justice Ministry reports about it.

The plan aims to enhance technical-level exchanges of best practices, particularly in transposing European Union legislation into the justice sector and digitalizing legal professions. The cooperation also focuses on monitoring the enforcement of European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rulings, representing cases before the European Court, sharing expertise on human rights protection related to extradition and the international transfer of convicted individuals, modernizing the penitentiary and probation systems, combating corruption, and supporting legal experts in joint scientific activities.

At the signing ceremony held at the Lithuanian Justice Ministry, Moldovan Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru praised the plan as a valuable tool for streamlining cooperation. She highlighted the potential to leverage Lithuania’s experience in Moldova’s priority areas, including legislative alignment, digitalization of legal professions, anti-corruption efforts, and strengthening the rule of law.
