The Government of the Republic of Moldova is in talks with external partners to obtain financial assistance for the cold season. The announcement was made by the Minister of Labour, Natalia Plugaru, after the Cabinet meeting.

Plugaru stated that the authorities are negotiating with international donors to secure additional support, just as in the past three years. “We are in discussions with partners to provide assistance, as they have done over the last three years,” Plugaru said.

The maximum energy compensation for the 2025–2026 cold season will be reduced from 1,400 to 1,000 lei, and the minimum amount will be set at 500 lei, according to a draft government decision adjusting the support mechanism for household consumers. The draft was approved during a meeting of the general secretaries at the State Chancellery.

The new rules will apply from November 2025 to March 2026 and aim to more strictly target support toward households considered energy-vulnerable.

According to the draft, the maximum monthly heating compensation will be 1,000 lei for households that use thermal energy, natural gas, or electricity as their main source of heating, and 800 lei for those using solid fuels. The minimum compensation for the cold season is set at 500 lei: if the amount calculated based on the formulas is at least 250 lei but less than 500 lei, the beneficiary will receive 500 lei; if the calculated amount is below 250 lei, no compensation will be granted.
