President Maia Sandu will consider a request to deprive ex-Demparty leader Vladimir Plahotniuc and the head of the banned Shor party, Ilan Shor, of Moldovan citizenship. The appeal came from the leader of the National Moldovan Party Dragos Galbur.
The chairman of the formation motivated his request by “the criminal activities of both, including the creation and management of a criminal organization, fraud, and money laundering, which caused substantial damage to the state.”
Adrian Balutel, head of the Moldovan president’s cabinet, responded to the appeal. He stressed that, according to the legislation, citizenship can be revoked by presidential decree if its holder has caused particularly grave damage to the state, proven by the court.
“At the same time, the said citizens must answer according to the law for crimes committed against the state and embezzlement of people’s money. We will review the submitted request and come back with details,” Belutel noted.
