During her official visit to Vilnius, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, awarded the “Order of the Republic” to the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda.

According to the Presidential Administration, Sandu granted the distinction in recognition of Nauseda’s outstanding contribution to strengthening Moldovan Lithuanian relations and his strong support for Moldova’s European integration path.

During the visit, Sandu also spoke at a joint press conference with her Lithuanian counterpart.

“Lithuania is a strong supporter of our democracy. For Lithuania, Moldova represents a priority in development assistance and a powerful advocate for our European future. In Brussels, at the European Council, and in every room where our accession is discussed, Lithuania is a reliable friend — and for that we are grateful,” Sandu said.

The Moldovan president also highlighted Lithuania’s support in the fields of security and defense.

“Lithuania has helped Moldova develop its armed forces, strengthen its cybersecurity and counter information manipulation. In such a tense neighborhood as ours, this type of partnership is essential,” she stated.

Sandu also mentioned economic cooperation and noted that Lithuanian investors were among the first to recognize Moldova’s potential. She referred to the involvement of Invalda INVL, which joined an international consortium investing in Moldova’s largest bank, as a sign of confidence in the country’s reform path.
