President Maia Sandu declared that Moldova will play an important role in Ukraine’s post-war recovery, describing it as an investment in regional peace and prosperity. She delivered the message at the Ukraine Recovery Conference, held in Rome under the patronage of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Sandu praised Ukrainians for their courage, not only in defending their country, but in envisioning a future filled with hope. “Moldova will be a vital partner in rebuilding Ukraine. Our country serves as a natural corridor to southern Ukraine—from Odesa and Mykolaiv to Kherson, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia,” she said. “We are developing infrastructure—roads, railways, bridges, power lines, and gas pipelines—that will support logistics and ensure energy security for reconstruction.”
She emphasized the urgency of military support for Ukraine, warning that rebuilding will only be possible if Ukraine can withstand ongoing aggression. “Ukraine must endure. And to endure, it needs more military aid—now. Moldova knows this isn’t theoretical. Ukraine is our neighbor, our partner, and a future EU member alongside us. Our 1,200-kilometer shared border makes our security and future inseparable.”

President Sandu also warned of increasing Russian interference ahead of Moldova’s autumn parliamentary elections. “We cannot afford for our shared border to become a hostile line. A strong, democratic Moldova reinforces Ukraine’s stability, just as Ukraine’s resilience reinforces ours,” she stressed.
Highlighting the broader implications of Ukraine’s recovery, Sandu said, “Rebuilding Ukraine means economic benefits for Moldovans too. Moldova’s prosperity is deeply tied to that of its neighbors.”
She called on EU partners to accelerate joint infrastructure projects linking Moldova and Ukraine to Europe, framing this cooperation as a strategic investment in shared resilience.
The Ukraine Recovery Conference, now in its fourth edition, gathers political leaders, financial institutions, and business stakeholders to align Ukraine’s post-war needs with concrete investment and partnership opportunities.
