The government has prepared a plan to deliver humanitarian aid to citizens on the left bank in collaboration with development partners. President Maia Sandu announced this after discussing the country’s energy situation with Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Speaker Igor Grosu, and Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian.
The president stated that two years after Gazprom stopped fulfilling its contractual obligations to consumers on the right bank, it announced plans to stop supplying gas to the left bank. “The right bank has secured natural gas for the heating season, and we are taking every measure to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply,” Maia Sandu emphasized.
“The Kremlin is once again employing energy blackmail to destabilize our country, influence the 2025 parliamentary elections, and undermine our European path. At such times, unity, solidarity, and faith in Moldova and its people are crucial. We must also use energy efficiently,” Maia Sandu urged.

Two days ago, Gazprom notified Moldovagaz, its subsidiary, that it would cease gas deliveries on January 1, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., citing Moldovagaz’s alleged failure to meet payment obligations consistently.
In response, Dorin Recean affirmed the country’s readiness to manage challenges stemming from the Kremlin’s decision. He condemned the oppressive tactics and reiterated that the government would not recognize any alleged debt invalidated by international audits.
