President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu says the first 100 days of activity do not allow for major changes in the economy, because economic processes develop at a different pace. She made the statement during the TV8 program Black Box (Cutia Neagra).

The head of state said that toward the end of this month or in the spring, the Ministry of Economy will present an economic development program that is currently under preparation.

“In 100 days, you cannot make a revolution in the economy. We are waiting to see a program, not necessarily a completely new one, because there is continuity, but with new elements that take into account the current context, in order to accelerate economic growth despite external and internal obstacles,” the president said.

Maia Sandu stressed that the Republic of Moldova faces a serious demographic problem and a labor shortage, as investors increasingly report difficulties in finding employees. She added that low productivity links to the level of education and technological development, both of which depend on investments.

In this context, the head of state emphasized the need for rapid measures to stimulate the economy, including major infrastructure projects implemented with direct state support.

“We need a boost now. Major infrastructure projects must take place with direct state support to ensure better conditions for business,” Maia Sandu said.

The president also pointed out the limited capacity of institutions to implement large scale projects, despite the availability of financial resources.

“There are resources, including through European Union funded programs, but our institutions have limited capacity to carry out large projects. This represents one of the main challenges for the Government,” she concluded.
