Maia Sandu spoke with representatives of trade unions and employers’ associations about Moldova’s transformation on its path to the EU

President Maia Sandu met on Friday, October 11, with representatives of trade unions and employers’ associations to discuss Moldova’s transformation on its path to the European Union.

During the meeting, the officials also discussed the economic growth plan developed by the Government of Chisinau and financially supported by the EU. The president highlighted that “we need sustainable economic growth to modernize the country, rebuild infrastructure, and strengthen state institutions at a faster pace.”

“The financial support announced by the European Commission involves major investments in all strategic areas and will bring tangible benefits for citizens: tens of thousands of new jobs, support for the creation of 5,000 new businesses and the backing of 25,000 small businesses, modern sewage and waste collection systems for 1.5 million people, the construction of bridges over the Prut River and a highway connecting Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine, the construction of two large regional hospitals in Cahul and Balti, and the reforestation of 63,000 hectares,” stated the communiqué issued by the Presidency.

This unprecedented investment plan will boost our country’s economy and create jobs, recognizing the progress we’ve made in recent years.

“We have the support to develop, and in the coming years, we need to work hard and unite our efforts to ensure this financial aid package raises the well-being of all our citizens and helps us modernize the country quickly. We should all contribute—state institutions, unions, employers, businesses, and each citizen—to this ambitious plan. We all want well-paying jobs in Moldova, so people choose to work here at home,” said Sandu.
