The Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, sentenced Deputy Marina Tauber, accused of illegally financing the former “Shor” Party, to 7 years and 6 months in a semi-open penitentiary. The judges also ordered the confiscation of assets and money amounting to over 200 million lei.

Tauber did not attend the sentencing, as she is reportedly in the Russian Federation. Her lawyer, Sergiu Moraru, rejected the accusations and argued that the case is politically motivated: “In reality, certain facts are known to everyone. Everyone knows that neither Tauber nor Gutul ever financed the Shor Party. It was neither their responsibility nor within their financial means.”

Prosecutor Roman Porubin stated that the court confirmed the accusations presented in the indictment: “Practically all provisions of the sentence correspond to the prosecutors’ requests. The court applied a partially cumulative sentence. The punishment falls within the limits prescribed by criminal law. We will study the ruling, analyze the court’s arguments for individualizing the sentence, and then announce a public position on behalf of our institution.”
