Marta Kos has praised the Republic of Moldova for implementing reforms at an impressive pace and called for the European Union to open all accession negotiation clusters with the country as soon as possible.

Speaking before the European Parliament, Kos said that supporting Moldova’s European path is an investment in a stronger, safer, and more united Europe.

“In recent years, we have seen a country that has stood up to foreign interference and hybrid attacks and chosen the European path, as well as the path towards European Union membership. This sovereign choice deserves our full support.

With an implementation rate of 93%, Moldova is ahead of all other EU candidate countries benefiting from Growth Plans. Therefore, we should ask the Council to open all negotiation clusters as soon as possible,” Kos said.

At the same time, the commissioner stressed that Moldova must continue implementing reforms, particularly in the areas of justice, anti-corruption, and economic governance. According to her, these measures are essential for meeting the interim benchmarks required to open additional negotiating chapters.

Moldova officially opened negotiations on its first EU accession cluster on June 15, 2026. On July 8, the country was invited to present its negotiating position for Cluster 6 – External Relations.

Also on July 8, the European Parliament approved its annual report on Moldova’s progress toward EU membership, calling on EU member states to open all accession negotiation clusters without delay.
