The European Union will monitor how the funds granted to Moldova are spent, said EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos in Chisinau. The official referred in particular to the country’s €1.9 billion Growth Plan.
Kos stressed that a large part of the support will be allocated to infrastructure and the economy, the implementation of the Copenhagen criteria, and support for small and medium-sized businesses. The third component, according to the official, relates to social cohesion.
“We have already noticed increased interest in investments coming from EU member states, and this is the result of your work. (…) We have disbursed just under €300 million from this growth package, which will be used for infrastructure, companies, and citizens’ well-being. The package will cover all regions of Moldova. We are not giving the money just to give it. All EU funds come with strict transparency conditions. We will closely monitor and audit how this money is spent, because it comes from European taxpayers,” Kos said.

In the commissioner’s view, transparency will demonstrate that Moldova is a stable and safe place for business.
On May 9, 2025, during Marta Kos’s visit to Chisinau, the Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova was officially launched. The support had been announced earlier during Ursula von der Leyen’s visit to Chisinau.
