Message to the Russian People from Igor Grosu: I Wish They Wouldn’t Be Jailed for a Like

Russia celebrates its national day on June 12. When asked by journalists to share a message on this occasion, Speaker Igor Grosu wished Russian citizens a life in a democratic society.

Grosu emphasized the right to free expression and the ability to voice dissatisfaction with government policies. At the same time, the head of Parliament stressed that Moldova seeks mutual respect.

”What I wish for these great people is for them to live in a democratic and free society. To enjoy the same rights and privileges we have. To be able to protest when they believe there’s reason to protest. To express their opinions freely. Not to see poor people sentenced to years in prison for a like or a civic stance against war or invasion. Prosperity, health, mutual respect. That’s what we expect,” said Igor Grosu.
