Mihai Popsoi Discusses Moldova’s EU Accession Progress with European Leaders

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi, Moldova’s foreign affairs chief, attended a working breakfast at the meeting of the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council, held at the invitation of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

The gathering brought together 27 EU foreign ministers and EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos.

During the meeting, Popsoi briefed the participants on Moldova’s progress toward EU accession and highlighted the security risks stemming from hybrid threats and foreign interference. EU officials praised Moldova’s efforts on the path to European integration and reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting the country with dedicated accession-related assistance and resilience-building measures.

The EU foreign ministers also reiterated their full political support for Moldova at both EU and bilateral levels.

“I thanked our partners for their continued support and underscored several recent decisions, including the €270 million disbursement from the EU Growth Plan for Moldova, lower bank transfer fees starting October 5, 2025, and the elimination of roaming charges from January 1, 2026.

Moldova’s European journey stands on concrete results and firm commitments. We remain determined to continue on this path with the EU’s support,” said Mihai Popsoi.

On Monday, July 15, Popsoi also held a bilateral meeting in Brussels with Kaja Kallas, Vice President of the European Commission and EU High Representative. The two officials discussed Moldova’s political and security developments, as well as EU assistance for strengthening the country’s security and resilience.
