Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi met with Kazakh Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu in Astana to advance bilateral relations and expand cooperation across strategic sectors. The meeting took place during Popsoi’s official visit for the inauguration of Moldova’s new embassy in Kazakhstan.
During the talks, both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to boosting trade, attracting investment, expanding the bilateral legal framework, and launching joint projects in areas of mutual interest.
They highlighted the strong potential for economic cooperation. In 2024, bilateral trade exceeded $40 million. To build on this momentum, both sides agreed to convene the Moldovan-Kazakh Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation later this year. The Commission will identify new business opportunities and support ongoing projects.
“Kazakhstan is a key partner for the Republic of Moldova in Central Asia,” Popsoi said. “We aim to turn our dialogue into a concrete economic partnership that benefits our citizens and creates new opportunities for our businesses. Opening our embassy in Astana marks an important step in expanding our diplomatic presence in the region.”
