Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea visited Romania on Monday, September 2. He met with his counterpart, Florin Barbu, and the Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism of Romania, Stefan-Radu Oprea.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI), the meeting aimed to find solutions to help farmers from both countries facing drought and other natural challenges.

”Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea emphasized the intention to create an economic tool to facilitate the interconnection of farmers from both countries, mentioning that expanding the Romanian Commodity Exchange into the Republic of Moldova could be an important step in this direction. Minister Oprea expressed openness to this proposal,” the statement adds.

Vladimir Bolea has proposed a joint program with Romania to modernize the irrigation infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova, which is essential for sustainable agriculture in the face of climate change.

The officials also discussed the potential adoption of the Agricultural Chamber Law and the development of business models to promote agricultural growth.
