Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi in Riga: Dialogue for European Support and Shared Resilience

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi met with Latvia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braze. The two officials reaffirmed the strong cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Latvia, grounded in mutual trust and shared European goals.

Mihai Popsoi thanked Latvia for its consistent support over more than 30 years of diplomatic relations. He especially appreciated Latvia’s transparent endorsement of Moldova’s European integration.

Latvia was among the first countries to recognize our independence. It remains a strong supporter of our European path. Its experience in countering disinformation is highly valuable to us,” stated the Moldovan minister.

Minister Baiba Braze emphasized the importance of the Moldova–Latvia partnership. She noted their shared geopolitical perspective: “Moldova is an important partner for us. We share a common view on history, sovereignty, and a rules-based international system. We both feel the impact of Russia’s aggression.”

The ministers addressed current challenges, including hybrid attacks and the energy crisis.

They stressed the need to strengthen institutional resilience and energy independence. They also welcomed the direct flights between Chisinau and Riga, viewing them as a bridge between citizens and a boost for economic and cultural ties.

At the end of the meeting, Mihai Popsoi thanked his counterpart for the open and constructive dialogue. He expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to advance in support of Moldova’s European path.
