On Europe Day, Mircea Geoană, Deputy Secretary General of NATO, published a message on Facebook expressing confidence in the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European family.
“Europe will not be built all at once and not as a result of a single plan, but through concrete achievements, creating, above all, “de facto” solidarity.
I still believe the words of Robert Schumann, spoken in 1950.
On the 73rd anniversary of the declaration that sanctified the creation of the European Union and laid the foundations of today’s community, we are seeing the results of our values, of cooperation, and prosperity.
However, I also believe that the only chance for the founders’ visions to materialize is for the European Union not to deviate from its values: democracy, the rule of law, freedom, and respect for the sovereign rights of nations to choose their destiny.
For all these reasons, the place of Ukraine, the place of Georgia, the place of the Republic of Moldova, the place of the Balkans in a civilized and democratic Europe. And, as we have demonstrated over the past year, we are more united than ever and better prepared to face any threat.
Thinking of our founders and adhering to their goals and values, today, we celebrate Europe Day.
Happy birthday, Romanians! Happy birthday, European Union!”, wrote Mircea Geoană.
