A Moldovan delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Vladimir Bolea, is on a working visit to Baku, Azerbaijan, from April 9–11 to strengthen bilateral cooperation across key sectors. The highlight of the visit is the VIth meeting of the Moldovan-Azerbaijani Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, held today in Baku and co-chaired by Bolea and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov.
In a meeting with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in economic, commercial, and investment areas. The dialogue also covered transport development, green energy exports, and closer collaboration in the agricultural sector.
Deputy PM Bolea emphasized Moldova’s interest in
- Launching talks on liberalizing road freight transport,
- Organizing bilateral trade fairs focused on agri-food products,
- Boosting agri-food exports to Azerbaijan,
- Exploring new opportunities in energy, education, labor, and social protection.
During a separate meeting with Minister Majnun Mammadov, the two sides underlined the vast potential for growth in agricultural cooperation, particularly in:
- Agri-product processing,
- Experience exchange in modern farming techniques,
- “smart cities” and “smart villages” implementation in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.
Mammadov expressed readiness to share best practices and technologies with Moldova to modernize the agricultural sector.

Energy cooperation was discussed during talks with Rovshan Najaf, President of SOCAR (the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic). The sides discussed:
- Enhancing Moldova’s energy infrastructure and security,
- Facilitating trade in crude oil, gas, and petroleum products,
- Launching renewable energy and decarbonization projects,
- Expanding SOCAR’s investments in Moldova, particularly in the energy sector.
The visit reflects Moldova’s strategic interest in diversifying trade partners and strengthening regional cooperation amid its broader European integration efforts. High-level meetings will continue throughout the delegation’s stay in Baku.
