Moldova and Romania will Boost Economic and Infrastructure Cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea met today in Bucharest with the President of the Romanian Senate, Ilie Bolojan, to discuss ways to deepen economic, logistical, and legislative ties between Moldova and Romania.

The meeting focused on practical measures to support economic development and enhance infrastructural connectivity.

“We discussed the export of scrap iron from Romania to Moldova and explored the possibility of extending rail transport, not just road, by adjusting the regulatory framework,” Bolea stated. “We also addressed joint customs controls at Moldovan-Romanian border crossings to ensure a more efficient flow of goods and passengers.”

Other key topics included aligning Moldova’s automotive sector with European legislation, Romania’s support, digitalization, and the implementation of modern software. The officials also discussed modernizing railway infrastructure and opening new Moldova–Romania transport routes to reduce economic distances and facilitate access to the EU market.

Bolea announced that Romanian freight and passenger transport operators will soon attend an event at the Romanian Senate. The aim is to present Moldova’s commercial and logistical opportunities.

“These steps are part of a broader effort for real integration into the European market through Romania—our strategic partner,” Bolea emphasized.
