On Friday, May 2, the Republic of Moldova signed a Cooperation Arrangement with the European Labour Authority (ELA) in Bratislava, Slovakia. According to the Minister of Labour and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu, Moldova becomes the first non-EU country to sign this document.
“Friends, I’m proud to announce that, for the first time, a non-EU country has signed a Cooperation Arrangement with the European Labour Authority (ELA), and that country is us – the Republic of Moldova. This arrangement opens up an important opportunity for Moldova to strengthen its cooperation with ELA in labor mobility and coordination of social security systems. It will create the framework we need to align with European standards, build institutional capacity, and support Moldova’s participation in EURES (the European network of employment services) and other EU mechanisms,” said Alexei Buzu.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and ELA began working on the Arrangement in November 2023, followed by a series of technical consultations. As a result, the document was adjusted to reflect Moldova’s status as an EU candidate country and was endorsed and validated by the European Commission.
