Moldova Calls for De-Escalation Amid Escalating Iran–Israel Conflict, Prioritizes Citizens’ Safety

The Republic of Moldova is closely monitoring the escalating conflict in the Middle East with deep concern as tensions between Israel and Iran continue to rise. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFA) warned that the deterioration of the security situation poses a serious threat to regional stability and international peace.

In its official statement, the MFA reaffirmed Moldova’s support for global efforts to defuse the situation: “We join the international community’s calls for an immediate de-escalation of tensions and urge all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and engage in constructive dialogue aimed at a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.”

The ministry underscored that ensuring the safety of Moldovan citizens in the region remains a top priority. Authorities closely track developments and coordinate measures to protect nationals currently in the affected areas.

The MFA also reiterated Moldova’s support for renewed diplomatic efforts concerning Iran’s nuclear program, emphasizing the importance of upholding international agreements.
“Moldova supports efforts to restart negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program in line with the commitments outlined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which are fundamental components of the global regime for non-proliferation and arms control,” the ministry stated.

The recent flare-up began on June 13, when Israel launched an unprecedented large-scale attack on Iranian territory. Claiming to possess intelligence that Iran was nearing the “point of no return” in its pursuit of nuclear weapons, Israel struck over 200 military and nuclear targets, reportedly killing senior Iranian officers, according to Agerpres.

In response, Iran fired dozens of missiles at Israeli military sites while denying any intention to develop nuclear weapons. Israeli defenses intercepted most of the missiles, but some caused significant damage in the Tel Aviv area. On June 14, Israel carried out further strikes, targeting Iran’s air defense systems and missile launchers.
