Nicu Popescu, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and now candidate number four on the governing party’s list, stated:
“The Republic of Moldova and the European Union have completed the screening process. It is one of the most important stages on the path to accession and a clear signal that the EU wants us to join and will support us. Now it is up to us not to miss this opportunity. On September 28, we will vote for PAS, the team that will bring Moldova into the European Union.”
The bilateral screening involved a comprehensive analysis of Moldova’s national legislation against EU legislation, a process that lasted 15 months. Experts examined over 100,000 pages of legal documents through dozens of technical sessions and consultations with European institutions. The final chapter discussed was Chapter 33 – Financial and Budgetary Provisions, which evaluates how Moldova manages public resources and aligns them with European standards.

The next step is to begin official negotiations on accession chapters, following the European Commission’s evaluation. By completing the screening, Moldova demonstrates the national institutions’ capacity to cooperate with the EU and meet its requirements at a crucial moment for the country’s European future.
Bilateral screening sessions took place in Chisinau, Luxembourg, and Brussels, involving hundreds of experts and civil servants from various state institutions.
