The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on January 29 that it had completed internal procedures to implement the government’s decision to open an embassy in Kazakhstan.
According to the ministry, Kazakhstan has one of the largest economies in Central Asia. The new embassy will help Moldova expand trade relations and seize new economic opportunities in the region.
In 2023, trade between Moldova and Kazakhstan grew significantly, reaching $101.55 million—a 52% increase from 2022. Moldova’s exports to Kazakhstan totaled $41.11 million, up 44% from the previous year, accounting for 1.02% of Moldova’s total exports.

The embassy will facilitate investment from Kazakhstan in Moldova and promote Moldovan products, including wines, fruits, and IT technologies, in the Kazakh market. It will also support Moldovan businesspeople in establishing direct connections.
According to the ministry, the new diplomatic mission will help organize economic forums, connecting business communities from both countries. It will support collaboration in agriculture, the food industry, energy, and technology. Diplomats will also work to strengthen Moldova’s reputation as a reliable partner in Central Asia.
The embassy will foster a more dynamic political dialogue, support cooperation within international organizations, and create new investment opportunities. Additionally, it will provide assistance to the Moldovan community in Kazakhstan, which numbers over 20,000 people.
