Moldova could receive an indicative roadmap for its accession to the European Union on October 28, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said.

Kos said the European Commission had identified four candidate countries — Montenegro, Albania, Moldova and Ukraine — that have made significant progress in their preparations for EU membership.

“We have identified four countries: Montenegro, Albania, Moldova and Ukraine. These countries have made significant progress in terms of their preparations in recent years. (…) On October 28, we intend to present indicative roadmaps for these countries. We want to help them maintain their progress on reforms, and these roadmaps will set out the next steps. They will contain provisional deadlines and clear results,” Marta Kos said.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in mid-September that Moldova could soon receive a roadmap for its accession process.

At the time, Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov explained that the document would clearly outline the next steps in the country’s European integration process, including priorities, deadlines and the results Moldova needs to achieve in order to join the European Union.
