Moldova could receive the first tranche of the €1.9 billion aid package from the European Union as early as June, Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced on Wednesday. He said a dedicated government institution will oversee the proper use of the funds.
“The European Union’s conditions focus on strengthening our state institutions and justice sector,” Recean told journalists after the Cabinet meeting on May 7. “We also need to improve transparency. These conditions essentially reflect the will of Moldova’s citizens.”
Recean emphasized that the government has already established an institution tasked with implementing the development and modernization plan tied to the EU assistance. “Where necessary, we will intervene to accelerate progress,” he added.
