Moldova is discussing solutions with Romania and Ukraine to strengthen its capacity to protect its airspace amid repeated incidents involving drones flying over the country, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.
Grosu said Moldovan authorities are in talks with both neighboring countries, but details cannot be made public until the discussions are finalized.
“I know some details, but I cannot tell you as long as the discussions have not been finalized. Obviously, we are talking to both sides, with both neighbors. Romania has benefited from the West, while Ukraine has the best experience. Unfortunately, it has reached this point and invested heavily, and it has experience. We are in contact with them,” Igor Grosu said.
The Parliament speaker said authorities would provide more information once the solution under discussion has been finalized.
Asked whether the repeated violations of Moldova’s airspace could be part of an effort to provoke tensions, Grosu answered affirmatively.
“I believe so, and it is not only about Moldova. You can see that Russia is applying these strategies across the entire eastern flank. It does not resort to direct action, but by flying over and violating airspace, it creates tension and tries to induce fear, tension and so on,” the official said.
Grosu also referred to incidents reported in other countries in the region, including the Baltic states, Finland and Poland, as well as the situation in Romania.
Four unmanned aerial vehicles flew over Moldovan airspace on the morning of September 24. Police are also investigating reports of two explosions heard in northern Moldova.
