Moldova Expands Air Connectivity with Six New European Routes and Increased Flight Frequencies

Wizz Air announced the expansion of its operations in Moldova, along with the launch of six new flights to Hamburg, Turin, Frankfurt-Hahn, Nice, Prague, and Copenhagen. The airline will also add two new aircraft to its Chisinau airbase, increasing flight frequency on nine existing routes to Brussels, Larnaca, Bologna, Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, Dortmund, Memmingen, and Verona.

The company made the announcement after Prime Minister Dorin Recean met with Eugen Doga Sergiu Spoiala, administrator of Chisinau International Airport, and Wizz Air CEO József Váradi.

Prime Minister Recean reaffirmed the authorities’ commitment to strengthening Moldova’s international connectivity and stimulating economic development.

“The decisions we made today connect us even more with Europe. Our citizens can travel more easily, and the diaspora has more opportunities to return home,” Recean said.

He added that modernizing aviation infrastructure remains a government priority. In the coming years, the government plans to build a new passenger terminal and rehabilitate the runway at Chisinau International Airport, Eugen Doga, thereby increasing its capacity to 6 million passengers annually. Authorities also plan to develop a modern air logistics hub at Marculesti Airport, which will serve as a regional freight transport center and generate economic benefits.

Over the past two years, several new airlines have entered the Moldovan market with direct flights to European cities. Existing companies have expanded their operations, adding more routes and offering competitive prices for passengers.
